- Did You Know? Featuring: COMMUNITY ACTION OF ORLEANS AND GENESEE. Each month, beginning in April and continuing through the end of the year, we invite you to participate in direct support for community mission. Here’s how it works: pull some dollar bills out of your wallet, purse or pocket and carefully examine the left side of the face of the bill, looking for the Federal Reserve Bank letter in the circular seal. There are twelve of these letters, “A” through “L”. Each month we will reveal a key word or phrase. If you have a dollar bill that includes one of the letters in the key word or phrase we invite you to offer it to mission, using the “Did You Know” box on the back table in the sanctuary. Mission Associate Jordan Sloat will deliver the funds received to our counters at the end of the service. All the funds we receive will be given to Community Action at the end of the month. We will highlight a new group in the May. Now here is the key phrase for April: LIFE AIDThis financial support follows involvement we have already shared with Community Action. Community Action helped with our “Cardboard Box Shelter” experience on the church lawn a few years ago at the end of December (it poured!). The food items left at the end of each of our Foodlink Mobile Food Pantry days is delivered by us to Community Action for use in their community work.
Community Action of Orleans & Genesee is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and has served low-income and disadvantaged families for over 40 years. Community Action programs are designed to empower as well as provide opportunity to those who are not yet self-sufficient. Programs like Head Start work on long-term goals by educating children and short-term goals by working with parents in a variety of areas like education, housing and nutrition. Many programs use short and long-term benefits (e.g., HEAP Application Assistance and Weatherization Services), referrals (Emergency Services) or education (Employment Training programs) to help people achieve self-sufficiency. We would appreciate any assistance via tax-deductible financial donations and contributions of goods and services. In addition, if know you of someone who could use our help, please contact us.
